Africell ceased operations in Angola in April 2022; network no longer active. Rural coverage outside provincial capitals is sparse across all operators, with large areas of eastern Angola having no service.

Common Questions

The details worth knowing about your Angola eSIM

No, this eSIM is for Angola only. It does not include coverage in Namibia or any other neighbouring country. You would need a separate eSIM for any additional destinations on your trip.

Without band 7, you can connect to Unitel on bands 1 and 3, and to Africell on bands 1 and 3. However, Africell shut down in April 2022, so your only reliable option is Unitel. Movicel requires band 7 for 4G, so it would be unavailable.

Coverage in rural eastern Angola is very sparse, and large areas have no service at all. Even in provincial capitals outside Luanda, signal may be weak or absent. Expect connectivity only in and around major towns.

Your eSIM will connect to Unitel, which offers 4G on bands 1, 3, and 7, and 5G on band n78. Movicel is also available but uses only 4G bands 3 and 7. Africell is no longer operational since April 2022.

The median mobile download speed in Angola is 21.35 Mbps according to Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for Q2 2025. Your eSIM will not artificially cap speeds below this typical network performance, but actual speeds depend on your location and network congestion.
