Coverage in Panama

Common Questions

The details worth knowing about your Panama eSIM

Your eSIM connects to Tigo, Claro, Cable & Wireless Panamá (also called +Móvil), and Digicel. Tigo, Claro, and Cable & Wireless provide 4G and 5G. Digicel is LTE-only with no 5G. All except Digicel use B28 (700 MHz) for rural and indoor coverage.

If your phone lacks B28 (700 MHz), common on some US-market models, it will still work on Tigo, Claro, and Cable & Wireless using other bands (B2, B5), but coverage in rural areas and inside buildings will be weaker. Digicel does not use B28 at all.

No. The Darién Gap region has virtually no mobile coverage from any operator. Coverage stops well before the border with Colombia. Near the Costa Rican border, coverage may be available in towns but can drop in remote areas. The eSIM does not include Costa Rica or Colombia.

No specific content filtering or blocking is reported for Panama. Data is not throttled beyond normal network management. Median download speed is 23.93 Mbps (Ookla Q2 2025), so expect typical performance. VoIP and video streaming generally work without restrictions.

Panama does not require visitors to register eSIMs or show ID for purchase. Unlike some Latin American countries, there is no mandatory registration step. You can activate the eSIM immediately upon arrival without presenting a passport or local ID.
