Coverage in Oman

Extensive desert interior and mountain ranges have no mobile coverage. B20 (800 MHz) is used for rural LTE coverage; some foreign phones lack this band.

Common Questions

The details worth knowing about your Oman eSIM

Your eSIM connects to Omantel, Ooredoo Oman, and Vodafone Oman. All three provide 4G on bands B1, B3, B8, B20, and B40, and 5G on n78 and n28. Omantel and Ooredoo also support 5G n40. Vodafone does not offer 5G n40.

Coverage is extensive only in populated areas. The desert interior and mountain ranges have no mobile service at all. For rural coverage, networks use the 800 MHz B20 band. If your phone lacks B20, your signal will drop much sooner outside towns.

Yes. Many foreign phones, especially from the US, lack the 800 MHz B20 band. That band is critical for rural LTE in Oman. Without B20, you may lose connectivity on highways between cities or in villages. Check your phone's specs for B20 support before travelling.

It stops at the border. This eSIM is for Oman only. Crossing into the UAE, even near Hatta or through Al Ain, will cut your data. You would need a separate eSIM or roaming plan for the UAE. No automatic handover occurs.

No registration or passport scan is required for visitors using an eSIM. You buy and activate it online before or after arrival. Oman does not mandate SIM registration for short-term tourists on prepaid data-only eSIMs, unlike some neighbouring countries.
